Blackouts hit Melbourne's outer-eastern suburbs

More than 1600 households in Melbourne's outer-eastern suburbs are still without power
after storms cut off electricity supplies 24 hours ago.

Power company TXU spokesman ALAIN GROSSBARD says pockets of Cockatoo, Olinda, Warburton,
Belgrave, Bunyip, Warrandyte and Poowong are still experiencing black-outs.

He says TXU crews have worked through the day and night after 100,000 customers in
South Gippsland and the outer-eastern suburbs lost power from 1am yesterday.

He says very large trees fell on wires and pulled the poles down, so they're having
to replace poles and wires.

The remaining 1600 households are expected to have their power supply restored by lunchtime.
