Fed: Howard does not expect to talk to Bush about Iraq situation

Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD says he doesn't expect to speak to US President GEORGE W
BUSH about the security situation in Iraq.

MR BUSH has telephoned the leaders of Italy, Poland and El Salvador to shore up their support.

MR HOWARD says he doesn't expect to speak to MR BUSH because Australia's position on
Iraq is clear.

He says said friendships between countries, like friendships between people, are tested
in times of adversity.

MR HOWARD says this is the worst possible time to be talking about withdrawing support.
