NSW: MP encourages consumption of Skippy
Less than five months after angering animal rights groups for circulating a poached
koala recipe, NSW MP PETER BLACK is encouraging the consumption of another national icon.
The state member for Murray-Darling says Britain's foot-and-mouth and mad cows crisis
is proving a boon for kangaroo exporters.
He's calling for a lifting of the lid on current kangaroo cull quotas to absorb what's
likely to translate into increased demand from overseas.
He says once Europeans taste kangaroo, they will quickly realise what Australians all
know - that it's okay to eat Skippy.
The Labor backbencher said in a statement that foot-and-mouth and mad cows diseases
have sparked interest in kangaroo as a safe and low cholesterol alternative to other meats.
He wants to see restaurants in Paris, London, Milan and Zurich with kangaroo on their menus.
Late last year, Mr BLACK outraged some of his parliamentary colleagues and the RSPCA
by faxing a recipe for Blackie's Poached Bear to selected MPs at Christmas.
